Kain's Fishing Adventures - Fishing the Premier Rivers of the Northwest
It's Spring Chinook Time!!!
Yes its time, the Spring Salmon season is almost upon us. WOW - The largest run in
recorded history of Spring Chinook Salmon has now started to arrive in the Columbia
river. Washington and Oregon fishery biologists predict over a half million fish returning
to the Big C this March and April. This could be the best Spring Salmon fishing you will
ever have the opportunity to enjoy. Don't miss out.
Join me on the Columbia River and its tributaries for some great fun and excitement
fishing for Spring Run Chinook Salmon. They average in weight between 15 and 20
pounds and are one of the most prized catches in the Pacific Northwest.
This years season will be open 6 days a week in March and 7 days a week in April.
Fishing is open from the I-5 bridge down.
Last season we enjoyed good Spring Chinook fishing with a run of 220,000 fish. This
spring should be outstanding with an expected return of 559,000 Springers entering the
lower Columbia and a 7 day a week April season. I will be right in the middle of them as
they enter the Columbia River and rods should be bent consistently. If you have never
fished for Springers now is the time to give it a try, if you missed out on last seasons
fishing or a repeat guest now is the time to reserve a date.
The details - I employ two techniques for catching Springers, trolling herring and anchor
fishing with sardine wrapped Kwikfish. We fish out of a 25 foot custom built river jet
sled, propane heater onboard for those chilly days and fish 4-6 guests at a time. We
start a daylight and fish an 8 hour day or until we are limited. I provide all gear, bait and
tackle. I will clean, fillet and bag your days catch.
Looking at my crystal ball - The 2010 season is projected to be the largest run since
1938 (559,000 fish). We have a wide open season, six days a week in March and
seven days a week in April. It is a low water year, fish will stage in areas longer. Little
run off this year means clear water, fish will be able to see our baits much better. It is a
El Nino year which means warmer water conditions. The Columbia River is warmer at
this time and with warmer water temps bring the Spring Chinook charging up the
Columbia in huge schools. Lots of chrome bright fish. Lots of action, Lots of fun, and
the best eating salmon you have ever had. LET'S GO FISHING!
