Sitka's
fishing can only be described as a 'world-class' saltwater sportfishing
destination!
Our anglers
experience awesome fishing action during the months of May through
September while they
primarily target Chinook (King) and Silver (Coho) salmon.
Our
area also enjoys an abundant supply of Halibut, Lingcod and many
different species of bottomfish. The variety of fish available
in our fertile waters will surely keep your reel singing with
non-stop fishing action !
When
targeting salmon we MOOCH ! Using light weight tackle, this fun
and exciting hands-on fishing technique is done with 10-1/2 foot
G. Loomis rods, Shimano reels, 20 pound Izoreline, ultra sharp Gamakatsu
hooks and plug cut herring. Nothing is
more fun then dropping your tight spinning bait into a salmon's
strike zone, working the bait, anticipating the bite of a feeding
salmon and setting the hook yourself ! All salmon caught are ocean
bright, aggressive biters and the fish bite all day long. Ocean
caught salmon are very strong fighters and can take several runs
before being landed, also the table fare is of the highest quality.
The
Halibut fishing around Sitka is consistently outstanding.
Halibut ranging from 25 to 350 pounds are abundant all season.
Chicken Halibut (named for their size) ranging from 25 to
50 pounds are the best eating size to catch and keep. Unlike
other area's in Alaska, Sitka doesn't have strong tidal currents
to contend with, this allows the opportunity to fish for Halibut
at any time of the day. It's quite common to catch your limit
of Halibut and salmon in the same day.
